SINCE 1913, the Carman Ranch brand has represented a family-owned and operated cattle ranch nestled at the foot of Oregon's majestic Wallowa Mountains.
That legacy continues today, with the fourth generation at the helm— but the story of Carman Ranch has grown beyond family. It's now a story of community: our network of producers, our supporters, our customers and everyone who shares in the Carman Ranch vision.
While it began with Cory Carman returning to her family's ranch, the brand now reflects a shared set of values rooted in stewardship and our commitment to supporting practices that improve plant health and diversity. It's about our belief in better food systems and our aspirations for the future.
Our work is guided by a simple mission: to grow the best meat possible, for the health of the land, the animals, the people, and the planet. We work to fulfill that mission by offering three unique ways our customers can access our 100% grass-fed, grass- finished beef.

CARMAN RANCH DIRECT

The beef for this program comes from the Carman Ranch producer group, a core collection of eight family-owned ranches in Montana, Washington and Oregon, including Carman Ranch.
Cory formed this small group of like-minded farmers and ranchers over the last decade, with the goal of raising the best beef while improving the ecological health of the land on a broad scale.
Two times a year, the Carman Ranch producers meet in person to share knowledge, challenge one other, collaborate, innovate and talk about what we are learning from our customers and others in the industry. We have field days, conduct tastings, hold ranch tours and do store demos. We refer to these eight core ranches as the Carman Ranch producers, and they are the backbone of our company.
Though they also raise cattle for our wholesale program, most of the beef from these ranchers and their operations supplies Carman Ranch Direct, and is only available on our website.

WHOLESALE

Customers for wholesale cuts of Carman Ranch beef are scattered throughout the Northwest. They include New Seasons Markets, Burgerville and long-time restaurant partners like Laughing Planet, Grand Central Bakery, and many others.
Our wholesale program sources from a network of family ranchers across the West who raise cattle of the highest quality. These animals participate in our cover crop rotations and gain weight while contributing to soil healt. They are harvested and processed at a family-owned plant in Brownsville, OR, before being shipped directly to our distributor.

COW SHARE

This is the oldest arm of our business—we've been selling shares of our beef, directly to customers, for over two decades.
Individuals looking for beef from an animal born and raised on our family ranch in Wallowa are invited to participate in our locker beef (or cow share) program. Here's how it works:
Customers purchase a share of an animal that is born, raised and harvested on the ranch, before we send it a few miles down the road to our local butcher. Each share is cut and wrapped according to the customer's specifications and delivered to Portland and Seattle.
Cow share deliveries are limited to a handful per year, meaning that the program has limited availability and flexibility. If you have an extra freezer and a sense of adventure when it comes to preparation, this is a great option for you. It's also the best value option we offer.
