About Us
EVERYTHING BEGINS WITH HEALTHY SOIL
Healthy, complex soil is the basis for all life — it supports the nutrient-rich forage our animals graze throughout their stress-free lives. In turn, they give back by helping to sequester carbon, fertilize the land, and renew and strengthen grasslands.
And they nourish us. This ongoing exchange gives us meat that is highly nutritious, rich in flavor and deeply satisfying. It’s a natural cycle that results not only in delicious food and superior nutrition, but in strong rural communities and a better planet.
Our Mission
- To feed our customers the most nourishing food possible
- To create communities engaged in honest dialogue around food, health and the well-being of humans and animals
- To live our values collectively
- To infuse our conversations about accessing good, clean food with inclusivity and a broad range of perspectives
What Sets Us Apart
- Our collective stewardship of 220,000+ acres across our producer group supports the highest quality forage for healthy livestock, creates resilience to climate change, and encourages habitat for a diversity of wildlife.
- Our eight partner ranches use practices that rebuild soil health, promote biodiversity, conserve water and sequester carbon.
- Our work on the land means that our beef is more nutrient dense and has a richer, more complex flavor profile.

Family-owned & operated since 1913

Nestled at the foot of Oregon's majestic Wallowa Mountains

Our Legacy
Since 1913, Carman Ranch has called the foothills of northeastern Oregon's Wallowa Mountains home. Cory Carman's great-grandfather, Fritz Weinhard, brought the first Hereford cow to the ranch in 1935. The mother cows that graze these pastures today are direct descendants of those original Herefords.
Four generations later, the ranch remains deeply tied to its origins. But today, Carman Ranch is more than one family's story. It's about a community of ranchers, neighbors, customers and advocates who believe in a better way to raise food.

Our Future
What began as Cory Carman's return home to her family's ranch has grown into something much bigger: A vision to reimagine the current food system. To cultivate healthy soil, resilient grasslands and strong communities.
With that goal in mind, we've built a collaborative model and way of working that prioritizes plant health and diversity, encourages producers to adopt regenerative practices, and gives customers the chance to have a direct relationship with the source of their food.
Our roots run deep, and our eyes are on the future. Join us.
Our Team
SMALL BUT MIGHTY...
our team is scattered across the PNW, and each of us wears multiple hats.
Here are some of the roles our team members play in the three distinct sales channels in which Carman Ranch sells beef.

Cory Carman
Wallowa, OR
Owner and the 4th generation of her family to operate Carman Ranch, Cory leads our team and the producer group and is a key player in connecting regional networks in support of regenerative agriculture.

Ted Bellinger
Whidbey Island, WA
If we had to give him a title, Ted would be our CFO... but he's much more than a numbers guy. A strategic finance professional focused on the sustainable food industry, Ted's prior experience is invaluable to our team.

Annarose Adams
Salem, OR
A supply chain professional focused on building resilient, sustainable operations, AnnaRose is our wholesale manager. She works closely with everyone from our producer group, to our processor, to our regional distributor and wholesale accounts.

Ellen Jackson
Portland, OR
One part writer, one part chef, one part marketing & PR enthusiast, Ellen does a little bit of everything and is behind the communications and all things culinary from Carman Ranch. With Tom, Ellen is the other half of the Portland team that manages the cow share program.

Tom Kooiman
Portland, OR
Our fulfillment, delivery and sales lead, Tom is responsible for moving our products between our various locations and sales channels, and getting them to our customers. He plays an integral role in our cow share program as well.

Cody Drey
La Grande, OR
Cody's background in team development, coaching and operations management across a variety of industries helps us to improve productivity, both within our team and the larger company.

Carman Ranch Direct
The Carman Ranch producer group is a collective of eight family-owned ranches in Montana, Washington and Oregon, including Carman Ranch.
Brought together by Cory Carman, these like-minded farmers and ranchers share a deep commitment to raising exceptional beef while restoring and stewarding the land on a broad scale.
Together, they form the foundation of Carman Ranch Direct, our direct-to-consumer program. Most of the beef available on our website comes exclusively from these producers, whose cattle are also a part of our wholesale supply.
Twice a year, the Carman Ranch producers gather in person to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and learn from one another. We host field days, ranch tours, tastings and store demos — always with an eye toward innovation, collaboration and staying connected to our customers.
Together, these ranchers are more than just partners... they are the backbone of our company and the future of regenerative beef.

Cow Share
This is where it all began. For over 20 years, we've been selling shares of our beef directly to customers through our cow share — or locker beef — program.
If you're looking for an animal born, raised and harvested on our family ranch in Wallowa, this is the most direct connection you can have to our land and our practices. Here's how it works:
Customers purchase a share of a whole animal, which we send just a few miles down the road to our local butcher. Each share is cut and wrapped to your specifications, labeled with your name, and delivered to drop points in Portland and Seattle.
Because we raise only a limited number of animals for this program each year, availability and flexibility are both limited. But if you have an extra freezer and a taste for adventure, this is your best-value option — and the closest thing to knowing your cow.

Wholesale
Wholesale customers of Carman Ranch beef are scattered across the Northwest and include a wide range of partners, from New Seasons Markets and Burgerville to long-time restaurant partners like Laughing Planet and Grand Central Bakery.
Our wholesale beef comes from a trusted network of family ranchers throughout the West who share our commitment to high quality and stewardship of the land. Their cattle graze on diverse pastures and participate in cover crop rotations, helping build soil health as they gain weight naturally.
All animals are harvested and processed at a family-owned facility in Brownsville, OR, then delivered directly to our regional distributor.
